I am Jon Sayer, a former AAA developer turned Independent Freelancer / Consultant.
I currently help maintain the UZDoom source port of classic Doom games, available here: (https://github.com/UZDoom/UZDoom/)
I worked at 2k Games for the Mass Media studio for about 5 years, helping to ship a variety of AAA and legacy projects.
I specialize in Unreal Engine titles, with a particular focus on Gameplay Engineering and Performance Optimization. Experienced with Unreal's C++ ecosystem.
Prior Work:
Worked with a very skilled team at 2k Mass Media to port New Tales to the Switch while maintaining reasonable performance targets. Getting an Unreal Engine 4 game running at 720p dynamic res on the Switch 1 was quite the challenge, but a very compelling one. Lots of under-the-hood changes were made to the game to achieve these targets, including moving to Unreal's Mobile Forward Shading (and fixing a whole lot of shaders accordingly).
Here is an unedited video of Handheld Mode, warts and all:
Assisted in the creation of the Epic port of Borderlands 2 and the new Social menus that were added for the PC unified play between the Epic and Steam versions. Specifically, I wrote a decent chunk of the UI code for the new Social menus.
